Me një investim prej 1.2 miliard euro Vlora synohet të bëhet një nga portat më të rëndësishme të Mesdheut. Një kompani anglo zvicerane “Zumax” ka paraqitur sot para autoriteteve më të larta shtetërore projektin për një port të ri kontenierësh dhe për një zonë të lirë zhvillimi pranë tij. Kryeministri Berisha e vlerësoi projektin, më të madhin që ka parë ndonjëherë vendi.

“Do te shnderroj Vloren, ne kete menyre ne nje nga qendrat me te fuqishme detare te Mesdheut, por dhe zonen e lire ne nje nga gjenaroret me te medhenj te zhvillimit te Shqiperise ” u shpreh kryeministri Berisha. Zumaks, me mbështetje të një kompanie amerikane ka bërë studimin e parafizibilitetit dhe tani kërkon të marrë koncensionin e projektit. “Ne nuk mund të paragjykojmë që sot vendimet që do të marrin qeveria dhe parlamenti shqiptar për të ardhmen e këtij projekti. Por ne jemi këtu për të thënë se jemi të gatshëm të menaxhojmë të gjithë interesin e madh të investitorëve në rast se na jepet koncensioni”, tha Lloy George, përfaqësues i ZUMAX.

Nga ana tjeter kryeministri Berisha i premtoi investuesve mbeshtetje per realizimin e projektit. “Ky investim eshte i vlefshem sa vete shuma e madhe, 1.2 miliard euro qe ju keni vendosur te investoni ne projektin tuaj te madh. Ju siguroj se qeveria ime do tu mbeshtese ju fuqimisht” tha Berisha. Për vetë rëndësinë e projektit, të pranishëm në paraqitje ishin edhe ministri i Transporteve i Kosovës Fatmir Limaj dhe kreu i opozitës shqiptare në Maqedoni Manduh Thaci.

ZUMAX AG invests in Albania

Zumax AG has developed plans to construct a container terminal in the Port of Vlorë, Albania, capable of handling in excess of 3 million TEU annually, along with development of an associated Free Zone industrial park that would be adjacent to the port. The container terminal is to be capable of receiving the largest containerships currently designed. It is to serve as a transshipment hub and transit port to the region, as well as provide efficient sea access to the local community. The Free Zone industrial park is to be capable of providing land, facilities and services to support the development of light manufacturing and assembly activity in Vlorë.

The Port of Vlorë is a natural deepwater port situated in a large bay towards the southern end of the coast of the Republic of Albania. It is located in the Bay of Gjiri I Vlores.

Vlorë is relatively close to the main east to west shipping route passing through the Straits of Gibraltar and Suez Canal. The deviation required to reach Vlorë from this main route is around 340 nautical miles, or 16 hours for the fast container ships currently in service.
